Employee motivation is the curiosity, energy level, dedication, and amount of innovation that an employee brings to the organization on a daily basis

Contribution of motivation to make organizational employees better employees

Employee motivation is all about how to grab an employee’s feels in tandem to the organization’s goals and how empowered he/she feels. motivation is of two types.

  1. Internal motivation
  2. External motivation

1 Internal motivation

Internal motivation means that an individual is motivated within themself. He/she has the wish to work hard at the workplace because the results are in honoring with his or her belief system needs, self–esteem, work plan, autonomy, and work-related pleasure making internal motivation to an employee

2 External Motivation

External motivation means an individual’s motivation is refreshing by external factors. There are some external factors it will help to motivate employees from the external side. Which may come from society, family, friends, and others. Sometimes external motivation promotes the willingness in a person to learn a new skill. Additionally, external motivation includes some rewards like bonuses, perks, awards, etc.

However internal and external motivating factors create the desire and strength to work.

Advantages of a well-motivated workforce

  1. Amount produced by per employee is increased which means better productivity.
  2. Helping to maintain better quality in production
  3. Reductions in employee absenteeism
  4. Lower level of staff turnover
  5. Reduced cost of employee training and recruitment

If an organization motivates its employees from internal and external factors it will help to achieve these advantages.

There are various types of motivation. A few of them are indicated below, As per Ken Shah & Prof. Param Sha, there are different types of motivation

1 Achievement Motivation

Achievement motivation refers to that it can be defined as the skill of the individual to work toward their highest performance level. It will help to reach self-actualization needs. Self-actualization refers to that achieving one’s full potential. This theory is similar to the Kai-Zen Concept of Japanese management.

2 Affiliation Motivation

Affiliation motivation is maintaining social relationships with peer-to-peer in the organization. It will maintain or restore a positive affective relationship with another person or persons.

3 Competence Motivation

Competence motivation is concerned with the idea that workers are driven to engage in activities to modify their skills. It will help employees to make aims and goals in their life   

4 Power Motivation

Power motivation is used in organizations to motivate employees. This will motivate employees through their prestige and reputation. There are two types of power,

I. Positional Power

– Legitimate power
– Reward power
– Coercive power
– Resource power

II. Personal Power

– Referent power
– Expert power
– Information power
– Connection power

5 Attitude Motivation

Attitude motivation helps to think, feel and act. Negative attitudes should be avoided but positive attitudes should be boosted.

Positive attitude people will have an optimistic approach. Negative attitude people will have a pessimistic approach. When working in the organization both managers and employees should have a positive attitude.
